On Saturday, September 20, 2008, the East Bay Convoy of Hope®, in partnership with local businesses, community organizations and Calvary Temple Church hosted a Convoy of Hope outreach.
This outreach was a "carnival-like" event that included free distribution of approximately 40,000 lbs. of food to approximately 5,100 primarily low income residents who live throughout the Contra Costa and Alameda County areas of the East Bay. The outreach also included the following free services: live entertainment, children's carnival area, bicycle giveaways, medical & dental services, job placement help, haircuts, and more!
Approximately:
- 6,700 free lunches were served consisting of Pulled-Pork sandwiches, chips, cookies, sodas, water, etc.
- 707 guests were seen in the Heath Services area for medical, dental or optical needs
- 860 volunteers helped with the outreach
- 435 free haircuts, manicures and make-up sessions for our guests
- 33 + community groups, organizations and business and participated on the day of the outreach
- 24 free bicycles were given away to children in our Kid's Zone area
The outreach was held at: Rio Vista Elementary School, 611 Pacifica Avenue, Bay Point, Ca 94565. It opened at approximately 9:00 AM and ran until approximately 3:00PM.
The East Bay Convoy of Hope® is affiliated with the national organization called Convoy of Hope®, which is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Springfield, Missouri. Together, our goal was and is to support and strengthen our local communities by providing basic physical and spiritual resources to low income residents of the East Bay area.
